The United States of America is one of the wealthiest nations in the world. Yet, over 40 million people in America live in poverty as of 2016, with 13.8 million of them under the age of 18. Where there is poverty, there is also hunger, job insecurity, crime, homelessness, and despair.
Our mission is to take care of the basic needs of individuals and families living in the communities of Escondido, California and surrounding areas. Inspired by the words of Jesus Christ in the book of Matthew, we reach out to those who are most vulnerable in order to help them gain stability in their lives. This often begins in the form of fulfilling immediate needs, such as food and shelter. We then help with transportation, skills training, mentoring, or other services so that they can begin to experience a sense of social and economic inclusion and have greater control over their own destinies.
We envision that the people we help will move forward in their lives to a better future; that the stability they gain will translate to increased self-confidence in their own abilities; and that our compassionate care will extend beyond those we immediately serve as they, in turn, will begin to help others.
"THE HUNGRY MAN IS NOT A FREE MAN. HE WHO IS CRUSHED BY MATERIAL CONCERNS HAS NEITHER THE WILL NOR THE STRENGTH NOR THE COURAGE TO RISE ABOVE IMMEDIATE CONTINGENCIES AND TO BEHAVE LIKE A THINKING BEING."
We believe that all human beings are equal in the eyes of the Lord, and that it is our responsibility to provide compassionate care to those who falter and fall so that they can begin to reshape their futures with courage, resilience, and renewed optimism.
Once we provide the basic needs of food, shelter and transportation, we offer programs designed to empower those who are most vulnerable with skills training, mentoring, referrals, and other resources so that they can once again take ownership of their lives
Our programs and services are grounded in practicality. We only employ methods that are proven to work. There is no time to waste with unproven methods when extending a helping hand. We are results-focused, and because of that, we inspire trust in the community. As an example, we launched our food program in 2017 and in the month of December alone, we distributed over 2000 pounds of food to close to 800 household members.
The work we do is ultimately fueled by our faith in the lessons of Jesus Christ. The sacrifices that He made on our behalf can never be fully repaid, but we can do our best to honor Him by conducting our lives in accordance with his Word. We turn no one away and welcome men, women, and children of all ages, social backgrounds and ethnicities.
We hold ourselves accountable to the people we help, to the community in which we live, and to the Christian principles that shape our faith.
